2020 Freedom Hunt Information

The Fort Custer Group Leaders, the organizers of the annual Freedom Hunt at Fort Custer, have spent the past few months monitoring and discussing COVID-19 and the effects on the Freedom Hunt in order to accurately and comprehensively assess the health and safety for the event.

In consideration of the current COVID-19 conditions, recent State of Michigan orders, and Department of Defense operational status at Fort Custer, the Group Leaders have concluded that the health and safety of Freedom Hunt attendees and volunteers is paramount and cannot be guaranteed for such a prominent public event. Therefore, the Group Leaders regretfully have decided that the Freedom Hunt at Fort Custer cannot go forward this year.

This difficult decision comes after much deliberation about being able to offer the deer camp experience that defines the Freedom Hunt at Fort Custer for our veterans every year. We understand the loss that many of you feel in not having a Freedom Hunt at Fort Custer this year - we feel it too, but know that we are optimistically planning for next year's hunt.

Stay healthy, and remember that you are still eligible for the DNR sanctioned Independence Hunt that will continue on public and private lands 15 - 18 October 2020.

We thank all who donated time, money, and product to this event and look forward to working with you in the future.
